How to measure
Measure the driveway's length and width, and decide how many coats you'll apply.
Tips from the field
- Figured at about 80 sq ft per gallon per coat. Rough, older asphalt uses more.
- Seal on a dry day above 50 degrees and keep cars off for at least 24 hours.
What you'll need
Common questions
How often should a driveway be sealed?
Every 2 to 3 years. Sealing too often causes peeling.
When can I drive on sealed asphalt?
Usually after 24 to 48 hours. Check the bucket label.
Should I fill cracks first?
Yes. Fill cracks wider than 1/4 inch with crack filler and let it cure before sealing.
